Fassnight Park

Fassnight Park is one of Springfield’s historic neighborhood parks, established in 1924 when the Springfield Park Board purchased 28 acres of former farmland from the Fassnight family. Early improvements included Springfield’s first public swimming pool and a native-stone bathhouse built in 1927, while Works Progress Administration (WPA) crews added the park’s distinctive stone bridges across Fassnight Creek in the 1930s. Over time, the park became a community gathering place and a center for local fastpitch softball and neighborhood recreation, with its historic pool and structures preserved after strong public support prevented their demolition in the late 1970s.

Fassnight Park is a historic community park offering recreational amenities while connecting to Springfield’s greenway network. Master planning will focus on preserving its historic character, enhancing floodplain resilience, maintaining its softball legacy, and improving trails and greenway connectivity.
